Appeal For Corrections

Because the material on this website was prepared by various research assistants over a period of fifteen years, it is bound to contain errors and inconsistencies.  It is especially easy to make mistakes while transcribing photocopies of the original manuscripts.  Not only did booksellers misspell words, but they often got the titles of books wrong.  We have not corrected their mistakes, but we have used the correct titles in the lists of the books they ordered; and for reasons of simplicity and consistency, we have modernized the French.  Anyone who compares the transcriptions with the digitized versions of the original manuscripts is likely to find mistakes.  I would be grateful if readers would notify me of mistakes by email, using this address: Robert_darnton@harvard.edu.
